Maintenance Technician

Sterling Heights, MI

Performs general apartment maintenance, assists with the upkeep of grounds, and performs other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Diagnoses and resolves appliance, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other problems
  • Provides exceptional customer service to residents and others
  • Installs and repairs ovens, microwaves, washers, dryers, water heaters, and garbage disposals  
  • Prepares vacant apartments for move ins
  • May perform general cleaning of office, common, and amenity areas, to include wiping surfaces, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, and mopping
  • Assists with grounds and pool maintenance as necessary   
  • Responds to after hour emergencies on a rotational basis with other staff
  • Completes maintenance projects
  • Performs other duties as assigned
CORE SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • General plumbing and electrical experience
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision
  • Ability to safely use various tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate with residents and others and complete paperwork  
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand spoken English
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • One year of apartment maintenance experience
  • Minor carpentry experience
  • Type 1 and Type 2 EPA Certification
  • Experience maintaining pools
  • Knowledge of Fair Housing regulations
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to stand and walk on an almost constant basis, including climbing stairs as necessary
  • Ability to bend, squat, stoop, kneel, twist, pivot, reach, crawl, and lie on side
  • Ability to lift, pull, and push 60 pounds
  • Ability to perform indoor and outdoor activities in all weather conditions
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform all essential duties and responsibilities
  • Must have and maintain a valid Michigan driver's license with an acceptable record
  • Must have reliable transportation to respond to work orders
  • Must live within a 45 minute drive time of the assigned property according to MapQuest
